Letter to Cllr Rod Williams – Connecting Staplegrove Spine Road to Cheddon Road

The Parish Council have sent a letter to County Councillor Road Williams, stressing the importance of connecting the proposed spine road to Cheddon Road.

Letter to Mr O’Dowd-Jones re Ring Road round North Taunton

On 30th January Somerset County Council (SCC) discussed their the Transport Strategy at a meeting of the Scrutiny for Policies and Place Committee.  A question was asked by the Parish Council at the meeting.  A copy of this question can be seen on this website (http://staplegroveparish.co.uk/development-of-staplegrove/connecting-our-garden-town-transport-strategy-scrutiny-meeting-30th-january-2018/)

Somerset County Council (SCC) provided the following response by email:

“The Council tested several options for road connections in association with planned development in the North of Taunton which helped inform Taunton Deane’s Site Allocations Development Management Plan. This concluded that in the context of the current development plan there is no strategic need for an additional east-west route to the north of Taunton and that there was little traffic demand for such a route. The work concluded that proposed development sites could be accommodated by localised spine road connections as has subsequently been taken forward through planning applications. The need for further strategic road infrastructure connections will explored further as part of the next round of development planning.”

Letter sent to John Burton re Planning Applications 34/16/0007 and 34/16/0014, and Spine Road construction

Please click HERE to see a copy of a letter sent by the Parish Council to Mr John Burton at Taunton Deane Borough Council (TDBC).  The letter refers to the North Taunton Development (planning applications 34/16/0007 and 34/16/0014) and to the implications of the £7.2m Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) grant that has been received by TDBC.

This focuses particularly on the early completion of the Spine Road, and the percentage of affordable homes to be built.

Temporary Closure of Manor Road, Corkscrew Lane and Whitmore Lane

Somerset County Council have informed the Parish Council about the temporary closure of a Manor Road, Corkscrew Lane and Whitmore Lane to ALL TRAFFIC.

This will effect Manor Road, westwards from the junction with Whitmore Lane for 45m and Corkscrew Lane, 55m southwards from the junction with Whitmore Lane; including Whitmore Lane from the junction with Manor Road and Corkscrew Lane northwards for a distance of 25m, a total distance of 12 metres.

This closure will enable Somerset Highways to carry out drainage works in this road.  The works are expected to last for 12 days, including the weekend.  The closure Order becomes effective on 05 March 2018 and will remain in force for eighteen months.
