Temporary Closure of Footpaths T 24/16 and T 33/1

Posted on May 4, 2018 in Footpaths, Parish Council, Road closure

The Parish Council have received a notification that there will be a temporary closure of the footpath that runs from Manor Road (alongside the Children’s playground) to Staplegrove Road (next to the Village Hall).

The Order will become effective on 23 May 2018 and will remain in force for six months although the path is only likely to be closed for 3 days.  During this time the footpath will be closed to ALL TRAFFIC due to the likelihood of danger to the public whilst water works are being carried out.

For further details about the closure please contact Wessex Water on 03456 004600

Proposed Northern Ring Road – support from neighbouring Parish Councils

Posted on May 4, 2018 in Development of Staplegrove - The North Taunton Development, Highways, Parish Council

Staplegrove Parish Council have been putting pressure on Somerset County Council (SCC) to ensure that the ‘spine road’ is built before any building work starts on the North Taunton Development. This would mean that there would be no need for construction traffic to use Manor Road and Corkscrew Lane, or the creation of a temporary ‘drop-down’ road.

The Parish Council are also lobbying SCC’s Highway department to consider extending this road to link with existing roads to form a Northern Ring Road. Cllr Clark has been very active in this, and has garnered the support of Trull, Bishops Hull, Norton Fitzwarren, Bishops Lydeard, Kingston St Mary and Cheddon Fitzpaine Parish Councils.  This support will be useful at the anticipated face-to-face meeting to be held with SCC Highways in indicating support and demand for such an orbital route round Taunton.

The Parish Council hopes that it will be successful in achieving a useful additional route to enable traffic to get to and from the motorway and the A303 while avoiding adding to the congestion in the town centre.
