It is approached via a separate access gate. (It must be emphasised that a child at the Playgroup will not automatically go to Staplegrove Primary School. It is still necessary to register a child at the school of parental choice).

Stepping Stones aim is to provide a warm, friendly  and caring environment, in which children, from the age of 2 years can socialise and learn through free-play and various adult extended activities. The Playgroup runs a full day program which means children can come mornings, afternoons or all day, depending upon the personal needs of child and parents/carers.

The trained and experienced staff are led by Paula Lukins, the Supervisor, who is a qualified teacher; deputy Supervisors Vicky Hobbs and Jane Watson. The adult/child ratio is 1:4 for children age 2 to 3 years and 1:8 for 3 years and above at the very least.

Observations and assessments of each individual child are used, with parent permission, to plan the next steps to their learning, completing a Personal Lines of Development (PLOD) which is shared with the parent/carer regularly.

The curriculum is rich, varied and based around stimulating child-led themes offering holistic experiences encompassing the EYFS framework (Early Years Foundation Stage).

Purpose and aims of the Early Years Foundation Stage

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential. A Child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. When parents choose to use early years services they want to know that provisions will keep their children safe and help them to thrive. The EYFS is the framework that provides this assurance.
